UK is it worthwhile living there?

I am from a warmer sunny part of the world. I was wondering what it would be like to live in the UK for a year or two, and work there. I have family in England, and won't be stranded. But I am terrible in the colder weather. I like the long warm summer days, as I live near to the coast. But UK is another story, with cold and foggy winters, unlike South Africa. It will of course be a challenge. But then a works permit for two years might be a worthwhile consideration. Maybe there are people who have had that experience, who will be able to fill me in. What is the cost like? And what is the employment opportunities like?
