I was told that depression medicine was just a placebo effect. Is it true?

i think in some cases when treating particularly unstable individuals, or when treating the worried well, some dr will prescribe placebo treatments, but if it works, does it really matter?

I guess it wouldn't really matter. So what are the dr's really giving you that you are putting into your system kwim?
