The easiest way to survive the initial attack, is not to live in or near a big city or military installation. But the prevailing winds will carry the nuclear fallout for miles, and depending on the amount of nuclear weapons used, surviving a nuclear winter may be harder, if the radioactive fallout doesn't kill you first. Then you have to worry about contaminated food and water, and other survivors trying to kill you for what you have. Otherwise, the best thing to do is to pt your head between your legs, and kiss our butt behind.

I am not sure I would want to survive, especially if the attack was near (which it would probably be, as I live near a nucleur plant). Life as we know it would never be the same. Suffering would be so great. I don't think I would want to see that.
