My children are doing christmas from around the world at their After School Program. One of the places they are doing is the United States of America. A recipe for popcorn balls called for 'white syrup'. The carer did not know what it was, so used honey in it's place. What is white syrup and what would be an appropritate thing to use if you do not have the right thing? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

White syrup - I think they mean corn syrup or light corn syrup which is almost colorless. Then threre is Golden Syrup or Treacle which is almost the same as corn syrup and works just as well too. They are all sweet, thick and syrupy, with the texture of honey.

White syrup - White syrup
A woman I worked with some years ago was an American and she said that it was corn syrup and used for making candies etc. Here in australia she found that golden syrup works just as well, and this was what she could substitute when for the white syrup which she couldn't buy here in Australia.

I do prefer microwave and packaged program for myself. Its really so fast and most important very easy to make. I'm not sure if you can buy stove top popcorn over in the UK, I've never seen it anyway, though i ahve seen it numerous times in American movies etc. I normally make butter popcorn i the microwave oven using products. This is an excellent product by the company which gloves just a great taste to the prduct with minimum of wastage.
