Okay sliced bread didn't come in until 1928, and the saying is actually "the best thing since sliced bread". However your discussion is the "best thing before sliced bread" peizli, so it can be anything before 1928. LOL
Let me think, the motor car was before then and it also meant that ladies didn't need to ride a horse side saddle.
Alexander Fleming discovered mould on a discarded culture plate although it was not till the following year that he made this know. This led to the discovery of penicillin. But it was not till 1928, so this doesn't qualify unfortunately.
Oh I know, Australia was discovered and settled before 1928, so we certainly qualify as the best thing before sliced bread. LOL
