The best one I have read so far. I hope you will make them realise how harmful smoking is!

I don't think this is a good reaction. You have to talk to them. Maybe they won't pay any attention, but you will have done your "duty" towards them.

Don't let the child do it. Tell in advance what the smoke has done to you!

I wouldn't like it but as I am a smoker myself It would be hypocritical of me to try and tell them it was wrong.

On the contrary. It will be the best thing to do for them. Show them what smoking has done to you!

From my own experience, I started smoking when I was 14 and my mom didn't find out til I was 16 and said that I couldn't smoke around her til I was 18. And what I did not find fair (but respected it anyway) was the fact that she smokes as well. From that, I have made the decision that if my kids started smoking that I would not encourage it or be happy about it, but I wouldn't deny them of it either. And because I smoke I halfway expect them too and I would actually expect them to shove that in my face. So why fight it. It's not like I could say..."Don't smoke it is bad for you", when I do it myself. And if anyone has the question of "why don't you quit?", because I choose not to. And just like that is my decision, it is theirs as well.

I am a smoker too. I tell it to my son from now that I'm sick and I smoke and I can't quit because I'm so sick. And it will come a day that the sickness will pass and I will quit it myself.

I don't think it will be easy to prohibit. I think it didn't work with you. Try to show them the lounges we get by smoking!

depending on the age. If they r 18 or younger i would have to punish them but not by smoking I would have to talk to my husband and we would come up with some idea. I would tell my child as long as he is under the age he will live by our rules.

No, I would not spank my child if i found out they were smoking. I sit down and talk to them about the negative affects smoking has on your body.

As always. We were children once and we have to think what we did back at that era.

Neither my wife nor me ever smoked .... so none of our 4 kids started smoking yet .... living in clean air at home and experiencing the bad smell of smoking friends' housholds was enough for all our 4 kides to refrain from smoking ... we never needed to discuss this problem.
But one precaution I took: We visited Gunter von Hagens' exhibition "bodyworlds" which showed the plastinated lungs of smokers .... this was very impressive for the whole family .... nowadays this might be done on internet www.bodyworlds.com/

These kids are very lucky and should be proud of you, and you of them.

Who in the Hell Would let their Children Smoke!????????
It's ILLEGAL for kids under the age of 18 to smoke in the US!!!! When my kid turns 18 then she will be able to make her own decision....I know smoking is bad for your health but it's totally up to her if she wants to smoke or not!!!

Well, it all depends on how old they are. If I caught them smoking when they are around 10 or 11, then yes I would spank them. But, I think that once they are a teen, it would be silly to spank them. I would really try to emphasize how bad smoking is to your health and show them some good examples of what smoking can do to them. Of course, if you smoked yourself then it would be hypocritical to get mad at your kid for doing it too. You have to set a good example for them to follow.

Here is how I handled the issue with my son (who is 25 yrs old now, and a nonsmoker) I started when he was about 6 or 7 years old talking to him about the dangers of smoking. I didn't harp on it all the time, but I kept the dialogue going as it was appropriate to mention it.
Also, if you do not want you kids to smoke, please, lead them by example. Quit smoking! Do it for them!!!
