How do you "Feed the cold and drive it away"? Help!

I go completely useless and insane when I have a cold. No system of medicine seems to work. While peppery soups and salt water gargles provide temporary relief they don't really drive the cold away. A person I know said that the trick was to eat ice creams and other such 'forbidden stuff' to get rid of the cold. Any suggestions anybody?

I drink a special Asian tea that gives me more relief than anything else. It's a loose leaf blend that I get down at an Asian market, it's called Thai Lemon. I drink two cups a day and it really helps me fight off the colds. And I suffer very badly when it comes to colds.
I've suggested the same blend to all my friends, and it's worked wonders for them. I also boil a pot of hot water, toss in some lemon grass and put a towl over my head to inhale the steam.
Good luck!
