What to do when a child uses drugs?

A friend of mine has a 12 year old son. My friend started to notice strange behaviour few weeks after the start of the school in August. Now he's convinced that his son uses drugs. There is no evidence and the son denies it, but it seems that he's obviously messed with drugs. Anyone has experience about this? What can be done to solve the situation?
