I own a 93 Jeep Cherokee and a friend of mine owns an 89 Jeep Cherokee, both have the very same 4.0L engine, but mine is a standard 5 speed and my friends is an automatic. I know that vehicles with manual transmissions get much better gas mileage than those with auto transmissions, but my friends Jeep Cherokee is gets HORRIBLE gas mileage. A full tank lasts me a week or more of fairly heavy driving, while my friends will burn a full tank in a day or two!!! WHAT is it that's horribly WRONG with my friends Jeep, that causes it to burn so much gas???

The 89 Jeep Cherokee possibly could have a carburator and the 93 probably has fuel injectors. This would make a difference in gas mileage as well as tune ups, etc.
