Definitely yes and only for quality and unique topic. Do not response to garbage topic like "what did you eat this morning", "what is your the brand and model of your cellphone". Also do not response to duplicate topic. Because it is more fruitful for ask to read one whole discussion than many fragment discussion on a single topic.
You can earn higher through quality discussion and you can make mylot a better place for all of us.

I'm pretty new, but I don't really pay attention to discussions that aren't relevant to what I want to read...

new discussions aren't not necessarily spam, because all quatily discussions have been one day new discussions. I think you could look at discussions and answer to some you consider as quality discussions. But a lot of them are always spam and you shouldn't respond to them, or just to help new users to understand guidelines.

Respons to the one's that interest you. Don't waste your time with all of the small one line discussions. There is a chance that myLot may reove those and your response along with it. Respond to the one's that require you to think out a good answer as well.

i do respond to questions whether they are long or short. does not matter to me for as long as i can answer the questions sincerely and if the questions are interesting for me. it's just i hate it sometimes when i get to read questions that are repeated or copied. it pisses me off.

I think if you respond to those is just a timewaste..this is because if mylot comes to know about somehow..deletes off the discussion and your count goes down thats it...

We can respond to new discussions if the quality of the topic is good and if you like the topic and think that its of your interest.

No you are better of just sticking to Discussions where you can give a proper response
The ones that are likt that are not worth answering so just respond to the ones that you find interresting and where you can give a response
Yes there are still spammers and cheaters in here but they are being seen to

I dont respond. Its a wate of time and your not getting much out of it. Its the quality of a discussion, not so much of its quantity. I think we need to start a board to get rid of those.
