What is the best way to take an invention to market?

I have an invention that i have made a working prototype but need toknow what is the next step in finding funds to be anble to produce and sell it. Any body got advice?

Sell the protocol to the companies that are related to it? Together with a propasal and so on. As in selling your rights to your protocol.
