Why do ladies become fatter after pregnency? Do the metabolism slow down after having a baby?? What are your views/informed views/guesses?

i think it's because the mother's focus has shifted to her baby's. so, she has less time to think or care about herself.

What he is saying is that nobody likes obese girls and so before marriage theya re trying to keep slim and after marriage they dont. But well that is not my question. My question is specific to gaining weight after pregnancy.

If pre-pregnancy weight was in the healthy range for your height according to your healthcare provider (a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9), you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds, gaining 2 to 5 pounds in the first trimester and about 1 pound per week for the rest of your pregnancy for the optimal growth of your baby. If you were underweight for your height at conception (a BMI below 18.5), you should gain 28 to 40 pounds. If you were overweight for your height (a BMI of 25 to 29.9), you should gain 15 to 25 pounds. If you were obese (a BMI of 30 or higher), you should gain no more than 15 pounds. If you're having twins you should gain about 35 to 45 pounds. If you fall into any of these four categories, talk to your healthcare provider about how much you should gain each month.

Thank you for the detailed information. Do you have a reference for that, I mean some website or something like that? I have talked to my doctor but he said it is normal but I dont think it is indeed that normal.

i think it depends upon how d lady takes care of herself..if regular exercise and healthy food is maintained then its not neccessary that after pregnency there ll b gain of weight..but i have seen even after trying hard to keep it as it is ,they do put on some extra weight.

Yes, I do agree with you that some gain in extra weight is natural. I am not sure that exercise is helpful closer to delivery.

Might be just because during their preg period they work lesser and there metabolism increases..

Actually you are right they work less. but that reduces metabolism and not increases. Reduced metabolism causes retention of fat + calories in the body. Hence leading to increased weight.

It happen only if they gain to much. When pregnant, you do not have to eat double, you have to eat healthy.

Maybe they are so worry with their child that forgot appearance :( I don´t know, I don't have a child yet but I think is possible to lose pounds after pregnancy without any problems, because I know some people that do this. Some women stay more beautiful too! I hope it will be my cause when I get pregnancy, LOL! Let´s try!
