Any ideas on how to spice up that old spaghetti?

It's my favourite food, and I eat it an awful lot, but I'm in the mood for something different. I've been trying to fry up some sausages and put that in the sauce, but that's starting to get kind of boring too lol...
I also switched from the parmesan cheese to chedder, which I think is a nice change, but do any of you have any other ideas of what I can do to it? Just to shake things up a little.
I still love spaghetti a ton, and would keep eating it regardless, but if there's other ideas out there to try, I think it would be great to try some new things.

if you like spicy food try adding some jalapenos peppers to the sauce while your cooking it, and a variety of other vegetables, like zuchinni, mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes, thats my fav, then i top it off with mixed cheeses all shredded together. Im a pasta fene :) I also use penne pasta sometimes instead of regular spaghetti noodles.

Okay, I'll definately try that one out! I know we have pepperoni around here too, because we make our own pizza, so we usually have it on hand. Thanks for the great suggestion!

The strangest thing I've seen with spaghetti was at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Newport Beach, CA.
It was St. Patrick's Day and some frat boys were chowing down on green spaghetti.

lol... that would certainly be interesting. I know my grandmother gets really carried away with the holidays lol... green milk and green potatoes and green everything for Saint Patricks day... then everything turns pick when it's Valentine's Day. Oh well... it's all fun :P

That would definately 'spice' up the meal lol... and I haven't really tried anything strange with pasta. What would you suggest?

Fresh cut garlic is wonderful and will be great for the summer/fall, since we actually grow garlic in the backyard here! And sundried tomatoes sound like they'd be amazing in spaghetti! I love them on my pizza, but never thought of adding them to my sauce :) Thanks!

you might want to try using tuna (canned - spicy) as replacement for your meet. it is really yummy. we tried it here once and have loved it.
my friends also once used corned beef. you know a little tangy taste on your spaghetti is really okay with our taste. might work for you too.

My best spagheti recipie ever....
Boil the spagheti and leave them aside. In a frying pan put some olive oil. Cut lots of dry onions and fresh onions, some garlic and let them fry a little. Then take some slices of bacon, mushrooms, and olives sliced in 4, and put them in the frying pan. Let them fry a little and then take some sour cream. Put as many as to cover the rest of stuff in, grind as many kinds of cheese as you like and put them in also and after a while turn off the heat. Remember to stear all the time. Then you take the mix in the pan and you put it there where you have boiled the spaghetti, that you have put out of the water they were boiled in. You mix really good and you serve immediately. If you like you can put on top grined grana padano. It's excellent!!!

wow... that sounds good too. It reminds me of something that I do like that, a spaghetti bun I call it lol... I take a bun, make garlic bread of out it first, and then put spaghetti sauce on top of that and then bake it with cheese on top until it melts :) So the bun takes the part of the noodles :P

Get yourself some great olive oil, a package of frozen salad shrimp and some ripe olives.
Chop an onion and a clove of garlic together and then chop some fresh parsley and basil leaves...
In a frying pan, put three tablespoon of that great olive oil and heat it till it sizzles...
Add the chopped vegetables and stir slightly. Meanwhile thaw the shrimp- this takes one minute, and dry them on a paper towel...
When the veggies are about done (two minutes) add the shrimp a a few of the drained ripe olives (chopped)... cook for 1 more minute...
Spoon this mixture over cooked pasta, add some fresh basil leaves and some shavings of fresh parmegiana cheese...
Enjoy! :)

I usually like to put green peppers into my sauce as well, and sugar must be pretty good, since you are also suggesting it. I'm happy that it will also make it less acidic, because sometimes I find that they are too acidy for my liking. Thanks for your suggestions!

Yes, we've been using a lot of fried turkey as well instead of hamburger in our sauses because it's lower in fat, and my dad is on a very big health kick lately. But I don't mind, if it's better for you, and still tastes good, then why not, right?

I enjoy cooking with shrimp and garlic and spicy peanut/sesame oil! Yum! Also try it with a bit of goat's cheese (not feta, goat's cheest is softer). It can add a nice light texture to it.
