Any chronic procrastinators out there?

I have a ton of trouble sitting down and getting work done. I find excuses and more excuses and things I would rather be doing than actually accomplishing anything. I have one last assignment to do (700-800 words) before I go to Cuba this Sunday and I can't seem to force myself to get started. Instead, I'm here posting. Why? Anyone else have this problem? Any tips? (beyond just getting of my butt and doing it?)

Gosh I am exactly the same. I procrastinate to the point of complete uselessness all the time! And mylot doesn't exactly help.. I don't think chronic procrastinators like me are equipped to give tips on giving it up;) I eventually do what i have to - but only at the last minute :P

Thanks for your response! I know there are tons of us out there! This site has certainly contributed to my procrastination today! I find I am always getting things done at or AFTER the last minute! Any clue as to why we do it?

I was going to repond to this a while ago, but I put it off til now :) I am so the same way. I would wait until the last minute to get all my school work done. Now that I am out of school I wait until the last minute to do things around the house, it frustrates my wife so much.

And here I am again, continuing to procrastinate, to check out this site. But I promised myself that I will get to work at noon. Do you have any little ways you try to force yourself to get started? I find setting a time limit for my procrastinating (i.e. - will start working at noon) helps when I actually follow it! I don't usually procrastinate terribly with many things other than school - it's mostly studying or assignments. You'd think that since I'm in university studying something I supposedly enjoy, that I would want to do my work. No such luck. Right now I'm putting off writing a 700-800 word movie review on a film I saw for one of my french courses. But I need to get this done ASAP because when that's done I need to pack.. and when that's done, I need to go to CUBA! lol..

Yeah, I can be as chronic as it gets. I should be looking for a job, and yet I spend hours on Mylot instead. Have a good time in Cuba, it's a fascinating place from what I've been told.

Thanks so much! I've been twice before, and it was indeed, fascinating. I went to Veradero, but this time I'm going to Cayo Coco. And here I am, still on MyLot, and I haven't finished that assignment yet. However, I will be starting it as soon as I come back from breakfast (will be going out soon). I am not even going to come back to the computer until I have a rough outline or draft.

I think most people have this attitude lol. If you're good, you will do it... right at the very last moment, though! Lol.

I am terrible for this as well. Sometimes it helps to write out a schedule for yourself, in little time blocks. Then, force yourself to do it even if it makes you want to scream. Even if it's only fifteen min time blocks, do it. The other thing is to try and deny yourself something you enjoy until you finish the task - say, I won't watch any tv until i do this project/paragraph etc. Write in small increments. Do it five min at a time and take breaks if you need to.
