I'm not sure if there's a satisfactory answer for everyone, but I believe humans evolved the tendency to assign meaning to their experiences. Thus we figure out what matters to us and create our own meaning as we go along. I think it's important to do more of the things that help us feel fulfilled and less of the things that leave us feeling empty.

to propagate the species and to learn is the best i can do. However, maybe we are just a random accident, a bacteria of the universe without reason, scary as it sounds it is possible
