I don't think poor parenting is the problem so much as all the restrictions put on parents. We have schools that shut the parents out and teach values contrary to what the parents are trying to teach their children. Social workers and various government agencies that often try to deal with children directly by passing the parents. Send your child to college and privacy laws prevent you from receiving any information directly other than the tuition bill. The best way to address the problems facing society today is to cut the size of government and have the politicians and bureaucrats stop meddling in the affairs of families.

i wouldn't totally blame them on the parents. peer pressure and media contribute a lot to what's going on nowadays.

It is a few factors in my opinion. It is a break down in moral values. And parents not strict, and trying to be a friend instead to their kids.

While media and culture are undeniably a problem, ultimately it does come down to the parents - who should control what their kids are absorbing as much as possible (granted, this is difficult). Furthermore, parents just do not require ANYTHING of their kids...good behaviour, chores, good grades...there are no standards for the children to reach. So is it any surprise that kids run amuck from cradle and beyond? After seeing a kid act like a wild animal at the grocery store last night, my husband and I had a conversation about this...lol
I also agree with airnavigator - the government needs to step out of the way and stop being so intrusive into family life. Parents seem to be afraid to even discipline their child for fear of an overzealous social worker removing their child from the home.
