I have a 5 year old black male cat. Hes my baby and i love him. I've had him ever since he was a kitten. He is an inside cat, hes never been outside. He was always a playful kitten and still at the age of 5 hes still very playful.
here recently he has started to chase his tail. at first it was mild and he would just chase it, but now when he chases it, he gets real serious. He gets peeved off when he cant catch it and even hisses at his tail. Should i be worried about this type of behavior? My dad says i should take him to the vet (which it would be impossible to get my crazy cat there) but i just think hes being playful and that hes bored?
Any feedback is appreciated

Yes, my cat also did that around that age. I have had at least 3 cats at all times my whole life. They all go through a stage where they do really weird stuff like that. Don't waste your money going to the vet because the bill can be VERY expensive for nothing. Take my advice, this phase in your cat's life will pass.

Thats what i've been thinking, my cats always been kinda peculiar anyways. Hes always active and playful. He has a few balls he plays with, but i dont know what became of his other toys.I was thinking maybe he needs some more toys, other than balls and the like. Maybe if i go to petsmart and get him some neat toys maybe that might deter him from trying to kill his tail, LOL, ya think?

it could....i have seen these things where there is like a pole coming up from the ground with like a spring like thing coming out of the top of the pole and it has a ball on it, so they can like bat it around in circles and stuff....that might work out well

I have a black cat same age and I've been worried about his mental status lately. My boyfriend says he just being a cat and they're funny. He's just now realized he can see himself in the mirror and he's amazed. I think your cat may be a little bored so I would make sure he's got a lot of toys to play with. My cat's favorite toy is free. It's the ring around a milk jug. He is fascinated with these things and will actually bring it to me so I'll throw it and he will fetch it. And if he likes chasing his tail, perhaps you could buy one of those sticks at the pet store with feathers on the end and play with him. Never met a cat who didn't like those....good luck!

My cat is 14 years old and he is still VERY playful. He does crazy things like that too.... he occassionally hisses at the curtains. Cats are cats and they all have different personalities. His hissing and all is probably just his make believe fights. When kittens are young they play fight. This gives them experience for when they are older. When they are older they still may do this but it is more probably to keep him in shape for if he has to fight. He could also be play hunting. Mine does that with bits of paper and if I blow on the paper as he pounces it he gets irritated that it got away and hisses at it too.
Cats are strange and usually irrational creatures. If he doesn't seem sick then it really wouldn't make sense to force him to go to the vet. He is probably being himself.

I have 2 dogs and one kitten. All I can say that animals do have allergies just like people. I would change his Diet first.

You don't have to worry at all. I'm sure your cat is fine. I love black cats, I've had two before. It's perfectly normal for your cat to chase his tail and I'm sure it's just a stage he's going through. I would only worry if he starts biting and hurting himself. He may be bored, try some new toys with him or try and interact with him more.

Have you looked closely at his tail to see if you can see anything wrong with it? Any scabs or sores on it?
I'm a former cat breeder and I've seen them behave this way when they have allergies and/or something such as fleas or mites.

Call the vet first and ask if this should be something that you need to be concerned with. Why pay the price of an office visit if they can answer it over the phone.
