Recognition is a must in anything we do... almost anything... Recognition is every`s person need... it makes jobs feel more fun and the employe perform better, it makes people feel more confidance in their self when their girlfriend or a friend makes a compliment, also recogntion creates proffesionals... if anyone wants to do better, to evolve, to improve, needs the feeling of confidance that you get from the compliments you get from the people that matters to them most... Also recognition is a must when we talk about education... at school were you receive a grade... or at home when you receive a present or a graduation gift and so on... Recognition is a part of our life... Maslow speks of it as one of the most important needs of every human being and if you look around you , you`ll se that the best of us are the one`s who`s efforts have been highly speaken off...

When you perform well, if your boss gives you compliment, it is recognition of the work. When you work for your boss/company, if a customer gives a compliment (gifts) on your birthday/festival etc. it is generally accepted. If a customer gives the gifts to get work done, then the matter has to be reported to your boss.
