What does MySpace need to do to improve its reputation?

Even though it's one of the largest, if not THE largest social networking community on the Internet, MySpace.com is gaining an increasingly negative reputation. Incidents of hacked accounts, fake profiles, spambots, child solicitation and molestation, and even murder have circulated the Net news...and the nightly news. Yet people continue to maintain their accounts, add friends, and keep in contact there. What changes do you think MySpace needs to make to improve its security, usability, and ultimately its bad name?

I don't think anything can be done to completely eliminate all the problems that come with it. All websites are exposed to hackers, criminals and anything else. Its reputation has been ruined and probably will not be able to retain a good reputation.

Myspace will allways have problems, fake profiles, spam and hacked accounts are allways going to be a problem for any soical site. There are too many people out there trying to take advantage of others and they don't care how they do it. As for the child solicitation and molestation, myspace has done everything it can do without banning children all togeather. Personaly I feel that parents should be watching what there child is doing online, alot of these kids have pictures on there profiles that should not be on there at all and it could all be avoided if parents would be parents. The only way myspace could stop children from being harmed through there site is to make it an adult only site. I think this is a bad idea because there are many children and teens that are careful online, and they make up the majority of the site. Even if myspace was to do something, there are still many other sites out there, that are not in the spotlight that teens can join and they will also have the same problems. There is really no way to stop it, we just have to teach kids to be careful online

I've never heard about MySpace before, maybe that's because I am in China. But I am a little curious why you want to help it?

I don't think it's really all to important, not everyone is going to like MySpace for different reasons, it's just like any other site. I love myspace though, I'm an addict there too! :0)

It's not that I don't like the idea, I just think that they could probably work out a few of the existing kinks.

It needs President Bush and Vice President Cheney to take down their MySpace sites and quit lurking after people. According to this vidoe, its all K-fed's fault. http://viralvideoutoob.blogspot.com/2006/04/can-myspace-save-president-bush.html

myspace would gain a decent reputation if it shut down.

If there was a way to verify a poster's age, that would be a start. My friend's niece is 13 and has a profile set to private that says she's going to be 16 next month. They should verify email addresses before accepting memberships. And maybe somehow get rid of the profanity?

All of the negative news surrounds children, little girls that pretend like they are grown and want to meet men, or really perverts and the whole situation is all wrong now because the parents have no clue what their children are up to, I've been on myspace for over a year now and don't have any issues with it, I will continue to be on there also. I don't think they have to do anything but to take away all of they young children on there, I think you should be at least sixteen to be on myspace.

all this ultimately lead to closedown of myspace. I am not a user of myspace so I can't tell more about but the myspace admin should be more serious about what is going on their site.

I was pretty upset when my cousin daughter wanted to show me her profile and I seen her adress adn everything else I know you need to be a certain age to be on there and she is not old enough I think they need to get a driver licence they are so many young kids on there lieing about there ages.If you are of age then that is your choice but all those young kids giving out there info. It is not good.

Myspace is not the problem, lack of parental supervision is the problem. I have a preteen daughter who is not allowed online without supervision.

I think that one thing myspace really needs to work on is the fact that thousands of peoples accounts are getting stolen each and everyday and then people are posting fake bulletins from them and it is getting really old becasue it is happening to all of my friends and it is very very annoying and I cant stand it.

Our experience on MySpace has been overall, good. Granted, there are those out there who would take advantage of others. Parents must monitor their children's time online, and teach them how to be careful online.
