Is it a Run Out

Hello, My question is regarding run out at the non striker end. Can the batsman be given out under the following circumstances: Bowler receives the throw from the fielder and in an attempt to run out the batsman his elbow touches the wicket with the ball in his hands. Kindly let me know if the batsman is out. Please clarify whether a run out can be effected if the elbow touches the wicket with the ball in hand or is it compulsory to hit the wickets with the ball in palms of the hand, batsman is out of his crease.

run out - run out
not out if elbow touches the stumps even though ball is in hands of the player... its out only when--1) ball touches the wicket and bails are removed 2) player removes the bails by his hands provided ball should be in his hand from which he is removing the bails 3) if bails are already removed then player has to remove one stick from the ground by his hands provided ball should be in his hands

a run out happens only when the BALL hits the stumps and the batsman is out of his crease...so even if the fielder has the ball in his hands, the ball should touch the stumps for it to be declared out.
