Cost of prescriptions

My Grandson has CF and I went to pick up his medications the other day because his father has not gotten started on the new insurance plan yet. For just 2 of the items he needed the bill was $300 WOW! I asked the pharmacist about it and the price was due to them being patented. The one medication was $198 by itself and he told me when the patent ran out it would drop to about $40. Whats your thought on the pharmaceuticals reaping such large profits on life or death medications when they claim that they care for our wellbeing over profits.

The only way to get help with costs here if you can get it at all is at the tax payers expense so the pharmaceuticals still get their money. Thanks for the response.
