Do you really have to wash dishes if you can't pay for dinner?

They probably just call the police... if it is two people & they both forgot their money, then it is probably a scam...
If it is an honest thing they can probably trust you if you leave your wallet or drivers license or something.
Don't go out to eat if you have no money....

Hello
I always thought of that being a joke.
i don't think its really true. But i bet people have tried it to see if it works.

Washing dishes is an old wives tale. The resturant has already hired someone to do this job. You would be in trouble and the situation would not be enjoyable. Never go out if you can't pay.

not in my lifetime..and I am 63,,if you tried to make a person work off the debt for not paying his or her tab..the worse case scenerio is the police would be called and a ticket would be issued for a court appearance..maybe they would throw you in jail..it depemds of a lot of factors...most places don't do this unless the tab was very steep..like for a party of many people...
at one time thouht motels and hotels could ask for marriage certificates...but since I got a job in a motel..i learned that most of the business we got was from people who were not married..lol...some motels charge by the hour...lol

I'm pretty sure that would be against the health code as well as a whole bunch of other stupid government regulations. Maybe back in the old days it was a possibility when restaurants were privately owned by a family and if you didn't pay they wouldn't have to do as much work at the end of the night.
