I live in Colorado Springs, CO, a city of over 200,000 people, about 40 miles south of Denver. The top news stories today, December 8,2006 @ noon is: A suspect that shot and killed a police officer a few days ago is released from the hospital and taken to jail. He was shot 11 times in an arrest after the shooting and is now facing the death penalty for 1st Degree Murder. He will probably get the death penalty for this. The suspect was being pulled over for DRUNK DRIVING!! Also making the news, a suspect was arrested for setting a fire at the daycare center where she worked. There was $1 Million dollars in damage. The 44 year old woman said she set the fire because she wanted the daycare to move into a new building! How stupid!!!!

The top news story currently in my country is this. Ottawa trying to reach deal with Arar December 08, 2006 - 11:03 am By: Allison Barnes Toronto - Ottawa says it's trying to reach a deal with Maher Arar to compensate him for his ordeal. Arar, who'll speak to the media today, is suing the Canadian government for $37-million. Arar is expected to comment about the resignation of rcmp commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli. While passing thru New York City in 2002, Arar was deported by the U.S. to Syria where he was tortured. The Syrian-born Canadian engineer was falsely branded by the mounties as a terrorist with links to al-Qaeda. Arar is suing the RCMP, CSIS and other arms of the federal government for $37-million dollars, down from the original $400-million figure. I see the price of his torture is now on sale. He must need the money. I would have stayed with the $400 Million request. That's a hell of a mistake to make! Thanks for responding.

I don't mind a little bit of torture, for that kind of money. I am being continuously tortured by bills demands and public transport. I will soon visit Canada dressed up as an Al Quida man, and get myself tortured a little. Maybe I can split my compensation package with the officials who torture me.

The news in my part of the world that is making headlines is the Seattle airport.A rabbi retained an attorney to sue the international airport for not displaying an eight foot menorah next to a Christmas tree.As a result, the airport removed all Christmas trees for fear of additional lawsuits from other excluded religions.

I live in rural northeast mississippi but the top news around here is that the break ins in our town pharmacy and nearby towns were done by a former police chief of Iron City, TN. Yesterday in the news was a man in an nearby town that was arrested for throwing a 60 lb pig at the people behind the desk at the Ramada Inn. He did something similar at Hardee's. He said he didn't know the people, had no problem with them. It was just a prank. As the police chief said "I've never heard of this. This must be some sort of redneck thing".

Sound like a Jeff Foxworthy joke! Being from Iowa, you'd think I'd have heard all the redneck pranks, but that's a new one on me! He probably tips cows, too!

The headline usually contains some info abt upcoming elections here in PAKISTAN. main opponents here are "ISLAMISTS" and "MODERATE-ISLAMISTS". we people, to be very honest, dont like anyone of them, we here are expecting full poll-rigging , seats are sold for money and source! WHAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANTED is someone like "Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto" to come in and take Pakistan out of western influence!

Sounds chaotic! I pray for peace over there every day! It makes no sense for so much violence! Are you saying that the "Islamists" and "Moderate Islamists" cater to Western Influence? What has happened to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto? Is that the leader who was assassinated recently?

I am in the Philippines right now and the headlines for the past couple of days would be the change in our constitution. Headline: Senators mock JDV 'challenge', call House a 'psychiatric' case Symopsis: The 72-hour deadline that Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr has imposed for the Senate to decide on the House of Representatives' revised Charter change proposal via a Constitutional Convention drew quick, if similarly derisive, comments from senators and congressmen on Saturday.

The most recent news story I saw as of yesterday, was about a 15 car pileup, around 30 different cars were involved. It was because it had snowed yesterday and some spots on I-69 had snow on them and some didn't. But I guess how it happened was that the area people were driving on had no snow on it, and then suddenly they drove over a stretch that was next to a big open field, and there was snow on that section, and people didn't react quick enough I guess or not even pay attention and they started to slide everywhere. Fortunately no one was killed. Only like 4 people had to go to the ER. One had a broken arm or leg and a few other people had some injuries. But they had closed down the highway, so my step dad sat in it for about 2 hours.

Our top story is about our most corrupted and populistic polititian who made in summer a picture with our two most celebrated skiers, the olympic champions. According to trainers and the head of our local ski organization, he was allowed to make a picture for his personal use only. Now he made a christmas card of it, using a snowy landscape as background, and will use it as a christmas card, he will send to thousands of people, he likes to see as his voters. You see, in March we'll have parliament election. He also made a short clip -without permission - and he will also use it as pre-election propaganda. Quite a scandal but actually it's nearly nothing, to compare with all the things he made before.
