Should marching band be considered a physical activity? Here is what I think. Band members deserve more athletic credit than they receive. The school board considers football an athletic sport and gives physical education credit to football players. Marching possesses a lot of the same qualities as football, yet band members do not receive the same amount of recognition for athletic ability as football players do. Both football and band increase strength and endurance, and are continuous activities, therefore, band members should be given physical education credits in high school for participating in the marching band.

Absolutely! We had a marching band at my college and a football team and I don't like either. I don't like marching bands or football teams. However, if football is going to be considered a sport, marching band should also be. Or they should be given the same credits in high school. And here's why: I don't know about your high school, but my college carried like 50 kids on their football team. Most of them just stood on the side lines during the game, sure they went to practice, but they didn't play. Then you got the people who do play, who aren't in it for very long because they keep changing out the defense or offense. In a marching band all members must show up for practice, they must perform and they must go to all special competitions and everything like that. They practice, march, sometimes they dance, in sync too, it should definitely be considered a sport.

I'm curious.... what is your definition of a sport. My father and husband had a big argument over whether golf is a sport/athletic activity.

My definition of sport......A physical activity that involves running, use of strength, and endurance. I'm not sure about Golf. It is considered a sport, but i dont think it is that great of a sport. No disrespect to any Golf players because golf still takes skill and lots of practice. But i prefer Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Track & Field, Wrestling, Lacrosse, Tennis, Hockey, Rugby, Softball, and Swimming before Golf. I don't consider Chess, Table Tennis, Pool, and Bowling a sport. They are more like hobbies you get me?
