I'm a 19 year old male and has history would have it; i can't cook. I'm usual meal is fast food: fried chicken, burgers, and pizza and sodas for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Rcently my mom has been pressuring me to eat healthier, she says that i'll probably die before i'm 25 if i continue to eat the way i currently do.
I'm in college and work part time and i hardly have time to take a bath far less learn how to cook and have the time to prepare these meals.
I was wondering if any of you guys have some quick, easy, tasty and health meals i can prepare to keep my mom off my back. It can be anything as long as it's quick and healthy.
Thank you, for helping me keep my mom happy as well as making me healthier.

this takes 20 minutes to do (i hope it's fast enough for you)
Barbecued pork sandwiches
Step 1: cook the barbecued pork sandwiches
Step 2: make the potato and green bean salad with buttermilk dressing
Step 3: serve.
it's rich in protein plus it has veggies like potato and green bean.
hope i'm somewhat of help to you

Surprisingly some oven meals are not hard to do and though may take maybe an hour to cook are nutritious. Try pork chops lay them in the baking pan and season with pepper, garlic or whatever...pour in a bit of water and lay foil over the pan. Bake about 1 hr at about 350. We serve that with mixed veges and rice or scalloped potatoes. You can also roast a chicken in the oven and if you are alone there will be enough for lunch the next day or using differently the next night. Ask anytime if you have a cut of meat and wish to get an idea to use!

Well if you are really short on time, there are prepackaged meals from the freezer aisle of the grocery store. They pretty much just need to be heated in the microwave.
Because of the sodium content and such, they aren't VERY healthy if eaten too much, but as far as I know they are still more healthful than fast food.
As for soda, I used to always be drinking soda, but too much caffeine can affect your health, plus if you get used to caffeine, it may stop any effectiveness it would have in helping perk you up. Almost anything that isn't water will have sugar in it, but juice (and to a point sports drinks) will be better than soda.
Oh...and the artificial sweeteners that are in products such as diet soda are NOT good for you, based on the news I've heard...in some people they have caused problems such as MS. Based on what I know, you should stick with the real sugar!
Hope this helps!

What if you made meals in advance? I have an Uncle who makes his meals on Sunday. He makes everything he needs to last him for the week. That way you don't have to spend time every day cooking. Your mom is right about the fast food - it's really bad for you. I used to eat it all the time too, now I try and cook more. I use recipes from www.cooks.com. They have great ones!

I'm a college guy too and I also have very little time to cook. If you're a snacker throughout the day, the best tip I can give you is that anything with 30% or more of a substance (fat, vitamins, etc) are considered high in it. Anything with I believe 5% or less is considered low in it. Next time you run to the store look for snakcs that are low fat, low sodium, and slightly higher in protein and vitamins on the nutrition label. Lately a lot of the prepackaged foods are startign to shift flavoring their foods with dried herbs rather than with salts and oils which will make things easier for you. Also, f you have a nbatural foods store or coop nearby, go there they will have healthy instant meals and snacks, and the people who usually work there are well versed in nutrion.

Spagetti is something easily and quickly made.
Scrambled eggs is another.
Chef Salads (made with lunch meat and prepackaged salad mix).
It's good that you're trying! Good Luck with it!
