Dieting is a waste of time. Losing weight is a lifestyle change, otherwise after the diet ends you're going to sink back into old habits.

limiting your calories is important, but make sure you are limiting the right cals:
limit fats and carbs, increase your protien. you want to have an exercise regimen with cardio and strength. the cardio will help you lose the weight, the strength training will help you keep it off, partly by maintaining your metabolism. talk to a nutritionist for a plan specific to your body's need.
