Do you think this new game will help your kids become more active?

Instead of sitting around now to play video games, with then Nintendo Wii they will have to get up and move around while playing. I am just thrilled about this because I have kids who sit for hours playing video games and surfing the Internet. They are actually dying to get their hands on this new game. One of my kids is overweight. Do you think this might help him? Can't get out much in the winter up here so this might be a good start and next year he can start getting outside more or am I just dreaming?

Cashiers who can't make change without punching in the exact amount you give them just totally steam me. I think it is so disgusting that they can't even take 2 seconds to realize it is basic ARITHEMATIC ... addition and subtraction, not even anything more complicated than that.
Don't let this happen to your kids. Teach them basic math and how it works without a calculator. They will thank you later in life!!

my daughter is only 2 years old and count to 5 in spanish because of a PC game. I think what you mean is peopel tend to stop using their brains when they have computers to do it for them. Like in a resturant, if you give the cashier money AFTER the rang it up to even it out, they can not make change!

It will make them slightly more active but not more active than actually going outside and playing. I guess its a step in the right diferction.

Some of the games are so intense that they are definitely NOT just slightly more active. They run, dodge other players and literally walk away feeling as if they truly ran a football field! It's awesome!

it could work. definitely made my arm muscles ache just playing it for one evening, so it definitely has some effect. shame that it doesnt use your feet too, then you could have a full body workout.
its lots of fun though, and instead of sitting on the sofa we where standing nearly all evening waving our arms around like fools. its cool.

Dance rev was a great way, especially for the girls, to find something that makes them move about more!

no, not active. they gain more wait. i say make them go outside for at least an hour but all day in the web or playing videogames is a bad idea. if you think of buying them the new nintendo wii then i suggest you give them like certain hour to play.

I think it will help people lose weight. it actually gets your muscles moving instead of just your thumbs...as for DDR...if i had enough coordination i would do this but man I have tried and its not pretty! My trying to dance...and my tongue sticking out. I cant even get thru the tutor session!

WEll yes a bit of physical work is better than just being a couch potato
When you sit and stick your eyes to the junkbox, you do no physical work and in turn become obese
Atleast a bit of physical work will make the situation a bit better no

I want one! My husband would like one too. It really is a great idea. There was a time when kids spent hours a day outside, playing, running, jumping, and having a great time. Now they are stuck on their broadening backsides.

It made me get up and moving! I'm not a kid, but got a Wii on launch day. If you really get into it - that Wii Sports game can give you a serious workout! One of my friends doesn't want a Wii because she "Doesn't want to get up off her behind". Seriously. I think that was the point of the Wii -- to get people up and moving!

i think its great..along with the eyeToy...there have been games coming out on PS2 that give people a chance to get up off the couch and move..my husband was one of them. he's a big Dance Dance Revolution nut and there are so many different types of that game..its really fun and it works up a sweat. the Nintendo Wii sounds really good, and mostly fun for the whole family...Nintendo was always a 'family oriented' game system. i think its great that all these game systems are coming up with ways for everyone to just get up and move...if you want to get your kids to lose weight i REALLY suggest Dance Dance Revolution for PS2 and they have one for xbox now i think too. it even has a weight loss mode on some versions which tells you how much callories you've burned. its real fun and they have an arcade version as well. my husband when down from almost 300lbs to 165lbs playing this game with his friends in the arcade. its a positive game, it has music and dancing and a lot of hand eye cordnation...a lot of games from Konami have these basis...DDR was a big craze in Japan and now its starting to pick up again here because parents are trying to find a way to get kids more active..i say that game is a great way to get your blood flowing.

Why don't you stop talking down to people because you know nothing about my kids except the five sentences you read here. He does go out, he does walk the dog but there are a whole nother set of issues here. In a minute I am going to go cook a meal for my family. Why don't you do that too?

With any luck, it'll help.
What I'm wondering is, if the Wii is a success, what will be next? And how far can they go with the motion technology used in the Wii?
Maybe full-body sensor suits that translate your entire frame of motion into a game. That's what I see coming in the next 10 to 20 years, even if it's extremely expensive, at the rate we're progressing in science and technology.

the nintendo wii isnt going to give your son a workout!!! lol!! most definitely not!! maybe you should start being a lil more strict with the hours hes allowed to play video games... theres no substitute for the exercise you get by running around and playing sports... i was over weight too when i was little... i just started eating less and playing basketball! it helps a LOT!!

At seventeen he is past being told what to do and he is way bigger than either myself or my husband. Long story about discipline, let's not discuss that here....I agree it's not a total substitute...but at least he would be upright instead of horizontal on his bed or glued to the computer chair.

Well I think playing game and watching cartons is one of the best stress busters... but not on top of the health... if we can make sure that we divide the time devoted to playing on Wii and some health related exercise( In your case some home door stuff).. then both the thing can lead to getting rid of that over wait issue..
