Will Segolene Royal become the first female President of France?

I hope so. She seems a better leader than Nicholas Sarkozy, her opponent (who seems to be a nasty little Napoleon). I think Britain (where I'm from) will deal with Mme Royal better than M Sakozy. If she wins, she will be the first female leader of France since Catherine de Medici, 500 years ago. Plus she's stylish!

I think she'll win because she will profit from the split within the UMP. However, if France is ever to reform its economy, it must vote for Sarkozy. He is tough and willing to take unpopular decisions for the good of the country.

Sarkozy acts tough. But don't forget he's been a member of the government as Finance minister and Interior Minister and not accomplished much. Plus he has very strange ideas about takeovers of French companies (he blocks them). From a British point of view, I think he'll be very chauvanistic and anti-British and will make our lives a misery.

She's neck and neck in the polls with Sarkozy, so she could win.

Yes, it will be good to see more women in power (women make good leaders - look at Mrs Thatcher!)
