Up to 1 year prison for playing Counter-Strike

As reaction to an amok-run of a young german ca. 1 week ago in Emsdetten, some german politicans now want to change german law that way, that all ppl "producing, selling or playing "Killerspiele" (killergames) an be punished with up to 1 year prison. Can computergames really cause somebody to start such crimes? Would such a law, in times of internet, filesharing and open borders, really stop young ppl from playing shooters? My opinion: Such politicans have no idea what they´re talking about, as they never even had a look at the games they hate so much. Some are talking in TV about how bad CS is, as it gives the player extra-points for cut of arms and heads Roll Eyes IMO they only start the "ban all computergames" campaign again, as its the easiest target. Its easier to say games are bad, then to face, that the whole enviroment (parents, school, frioends, all media) invluence the behaviour of a kid, not only some games. Diascuss

i don't think anybody can but you in jail for playing video games, how real or how much the game might have but still it is a game nothing concerning reality.

This is just another example of targetting something which is easy to do than try to catch the real culprit behind the crime.Politicians always find an easy way out!!!

What's the connection between this game and crimes? I've known people who play these kind of games and none of them showed any sign of violence or even a possibility of doing crimes. Well, I think that your government should focus on serious real crimes and not this kind of leisure or activities.

True. That is what politicians do. Pretend that they found a solution, so, we the stupid ones will believe them and give them their vote.

My son plays Counter strike, and he has yet to "run amok." It is easy to point to and blame external factors such as popular games, music, et cetera rather than to closely examine the actions of a small group of people. Additionally, by focusing the public on this issue, the political establishment effectively diverts the voting population's attention way from more substantial issues to which difficult decisions must be taken.

I think thats the stupidest thing ever. Germany cannot take on the world. With all the file sharing and games companies, the game companies alone could take on the german government. They will never succeed. German gamers would rise up against them, as would the gamers of the world. IN THE NAME OF GAMING FREEDOM, WE SALUTE YE !

This is the most ridiculous law I have ever heard of. I hate it when people try to make arguments about how games like CS and Grand Theft Auto make teenagers go to school and shoot people. The people that are going to school and shoothing people are already messed up in the head to a certain level where there is no way a video game could even make a mark on their thoughts. It is terrible how stupid some lawmakers are. However, I have to say that this law will never pass. Thank God.

germans are like that....they always want back-doors and removal of content from certain programs and games. I remeber there was an ip masking program that the germans wanted a back door to so they could track their pedos. They are just the strange want to spy on everyone type of people... and a world without counter-strike would be hell, people would end up taking their anger out in other ways, so I think violence would increase!!! stupid people!

they are right in some way...music, movies, games they all produce violance...but i don't think that a normal kid that plays such a game would kill somebody...i play these kinds of games and i haven't tried to kill someone. but i think that the criminals are just people who are not normal.

In my opinion what the government did was a good thing. It may directly or indirectly influence the children and even adults, we have so many stories to tell about the bad influence part.
