Okay, Ive seen a lot of topics started on Religion, and I viewed both weeks of Trading Spouses with Alyce Hammond, the straight laced, Im running the show, Christian Mom from Norht Cali....so I thought this would be a controversial topic as well. I want to say Im shocked but not really, Ive bared witness to the acts of Christians. I was dating a Reverends son at one time, she was like day and night! Im not here to talk about her, but I just want all of you to know Im talking from a bit of experience.
Anyway, what do those of you who watched think of this woman? She is very cold toward her family and others, she was totally expectant and judgemental from the get go, probably so before she left her house and got on the plane. But seriously, that is how Ive seen it done; the Christian way. The mind is closed and focused on one way of life, no other way can possibly be good and you will not suceed. What a burden to wear when you think of something supposed to be so beautiful and so peaceful? I think the Atheists were a more loving caring family. Did anyone notice how affectionate and touchy feely the Girone family was? haha I think the Bible teaches us that touch and intimacy are wrong, while teachings like Buddah welcome warm physical contact and bliss. Christians and Catholics are by the book! Strict, forceful, consequented with good or bad. Buddah is slow moving, gentle, calmed, relaxed and EVERYTHING is equal and peaceful. There is always good with Buddah and Zen.
Now I must say this, I do know that TV is TV and that all reality is altered in some way to fit formatting regulations. haha I know they may edit a statement to cause a flutter of discussion; as they have here, but I do think for the most part, they are conveyed in a true light. I dont think the networks have that kind of time to edit the content as much as I have read people complaining they do and its not a truthful depiction.
Do you think Christianity truly allows you to be who you really are and be happy and comfortable with it? BBQ's with Alyce home didnt have wine, yet all HER friends were drinking right along with them. Even the ones from the Bible Study they had Barb attend. Tims mother said she doesnt feel like she can be herself around Alyce and her family because of the religion. God is supposed to be warm and inviting, not cold and calculating; how can we get these people converted and quickly!? And why dont they see how pushy and judgemental they are being?

Wow, what observations you made. I haven't seen this show, so I can't comment on that part. I wanted to mention that I was raised Buddhist, and never realized until in college when someone mentioned to me about how "Buddhists are not raised with fear as Christians are". I think that these are just how some Christian extremists are, and in no way reflect upon all Christians. My very devout Catholic friend said to me that I display more Christian values on a daily basis than most of those people that she goes to church with every sunday. I laughed. (by the way, my friend does have one of the most caring AND touchy family that I know) But really, they're not Christian values, or Buddhist values, they're just simply human values and common courtesy. Also funny, is that I'm half Japanese, and we just don't display that touchy feely thing almost at all. But it's not up to us to set out to convert these people (although we wish that they could enjoy the peacefulness of a more relaxing lifestyle). They need to be "touched" by someone. It has to be randomly shown to them and they have to be able to see if for what it is. You can't force it on them. After all, it's their pushiness that makes us pull away from them. Aloha!

Very nice, thank you for your response. Christians are a bit pushy and do tend to scare people off. I just think they dont interpret the Bible they way it has been translated. I liked how you said that you dont have Christian values, or Buddist values they are just simply human values. If everyone could see that way then I think this world could be alright after all! lol I think Human Values should be a new religion! I think it is what is behind any religion out there, but people let their attitudes get in the way, let other peoples thoughts of them affect them. Trading Spouses is a show about opening your eyes to a way of life that you may not have known existed, and I think its a great show. I do hope that the people that take part in this really learn something valuable from the other family. We need more open minds in the world!
Trading Spouses is on Friday nights, on Fox. you can check www.fox.com for your local times. Give it a look!
The picture was from an email I got with a whole bunch of beautiful landscapes from all over the world. I dont even remember the name of it, or where it is located. But it is really beautiful isnt it? Looks like you could hide away there and actually relax!
