why the discussions i start get only 1 or 2 responses?

there is nothing like formula. send some joke,or some quotes or some interesting things ,any general knoweledge question which people like the most.just try these things..

I think it's luck. There are so many new discussions being posted, that if your discussion doesn't attract replies early, it gets buried and forgotton about.
