How inappropriate is belching aloud in your culture? It is considered rude in America. What is considered rude table manners where you live?

Belching aloud, is rude in the states. I know in some countries, it is a compliment. My husband was in the Navy years back, in one country (I foget which one) It was not allowed of men to show the bottom of their shoes. Odd.

Here in the philippines, we consider eating with hats or cap in the head is a rude tabel manner, or sometimes if the person eats and burps too loud infront of still eating person..thats sucks!

Having a hat on your head is impolite, but not as much as belching aloud at the table

I read in a newspaper that eating using spoon and pork is inappropriate in one country, but in the Philippines this is what we mailny use. Of course belching is inappropriate while you're in the table. I have a friend who belch every after eating and it really annoy me because he don't even say excuse and he does it even in front of my girlfriend.

Belching, be it loud or not, in the presence of another person is not acceptable in our country. We know that this is inevitable, but in so doing, one should distance himself from others as much as possible to avoid humiliation. Another rude table manner is making noises out of your lips while chewing.

I'm Australian, but my mother is Indian. Often we eat with our hands. You may only eat with your right hand, as the left hand is considered dirty (other tasks :) ). Your also must only eat from your fingertips, not from your palm. We do not drink from cups with our lips, but instead pour the liquid into our mouth. Saliva is not shared this way. I don't think belching is polite, but is probably more acceptable. Have you all read 'The BFG'?
