What do you think about smoking, drinking, and/or drug use in films? Do you think that it affects whether or not/how much you use them? Do you think it influences kids to use them? Do you think that films that show binge drinking/getting drunk (not a glass of wine with dinner or James Bond's martini) or smoking should automatically be rated R?

Film is about telling stories. If the characters do these things as part of the storytelling process, so be it. Does it have an influence? Of course. I'm not sure where to draw the line as far as MPAA ratings are concerned. That system is hokey at best. I still maintain that the best defense to protect your kids from media influences is for parents to screen the films their children see. Censorship should not extend above the family level.
