Tenn. convicted murderer on run 33 years captured in Alabama

Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. - U.S. Marshals say a convicted murderer who escaped from a work release program in Nashville 33 years ago was captured in Southeast Alabama over the weekend, where he had been working construction jobs using his real name. 57-year-old Billy Wayne Hayes was arrested by marshals and police Friday night at a gas station in Dothan. Hayes was sentenced in 1968 to serve 10 years for second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Nashville paint contractor. He was assigned to a work release program and never returned after signing out for work on December 21st, 1972. Hayes is being held in the Houston County jail where he awaits extradition to Tennessee.

wow! that is great that they got him! i just dont understand how he could have been allowed to be on a work release program if he was convicted of murder. that just doesnt make sense. they should be locked up with no priveledges.... soemtimes they have it better inthe prison then citizens out here.+
