For the media part o, I would go with Apple. Apple is excellent in the photo editing and video editing department. However, I have only seen this done on a PowerPC, and not one of those new iMac or iMac minis. Also, as far as the Intel/AMD situation there, you have to look at something called FSB (Front Side Bus) speed. What you're weighing out here is how fast the data can go in and out of the processor, rather than how fast the processor can manipulate it. I've seen some pretty high end Intel processors run games, encode video and audio, etc. at a significant speed slower than a comparable AMD. My personal experience: Dual processor (NOT dual core) Intel 2.8 Ghz 800 Mhz FSB, 1GB ram, ATI Radeon x1300 was not able to run Half Life 2: Episode One. However, my Media Center PC with an AMD Dual Core 4200+ (2.2 Ghz, 2000 Mhz FSB, same memory and video card) runs it flawlessly. Then again, we could argue semantics all night long. Go to a computer store (not a big chain electronics store) and ask there too. Most people don't charge for advice
