Yes, I love fruit cake! It's not Christmas to me without it. Come to think of it, I haven't had one this year. I don't understand why it has such a bad name. You say that you've never tried it, so how do you know you don't like it?

I know I wouldn't like it because I hate the fruits they put it in. And most fruit cakes have a rum cake base and I hate rum cake! So I figure since I hate the ingredients... there's a big chance I'll hate the finished product! lol

Always hated it when I was a kid (my grandparents always gave us one for Christmas, which seemed to weigh about 10 lbs.) We all tried to avoid eating it.
Now I like it, it's sweet and fruity and has rum in it. Maybe it's just because I've gotten older... maybe I'll like rocking chairs in a few years, scary thought...

sometimes part of the appeal to it is that you only have it once a year I guess

I have eaten Fruit Cake. I don't think it's that bad. I wouldn't eat it all the time but it's not as terrible as people make it seem. My father absolutely LOVES it!!! He gets a loaf every year!

I see and hear about it all the time during Christmas. But most people don't like receiving it as a gift. I like cakes made with fruit. But never tried the famous "fruit cake" we all know about.

Fruitcake is a cake made of dried fruits and optionally candied fruit, spices and nuts that may be soaked in brandy or rum, the richest versions (possibly iced) often being used in the celebration of weddings and Christmas.

Heheh..ya I've heard abt the fruit cake joke..last night I was watching a show on food network on tv, that people who gift fruit cakes aren't welcome at all! The main reason being it doesn't taste good..hehe..but they later showed a good recipe for fruit cake. There was an old lady who has had her fruit cake for over 20 years!!! Can u imagine that. But a fact remains, that if good ingredients are used and the fruit cake is stored well it will remain good for 25 yrs! Talk about preserving food!

I think the big joke came about because of the life of the fruit cake. The older it is the better. Here in the Philippines, fruit cake is quite expensive. It's a very rich dessert so it will probably last a long time in your fridge. I like it though. All those nuts and sweet fruit!
