Advice On Creating Characters

Creating characters for my fiction is one of my favorite things to do. Others may have advice on how they do it. My advice is simple. Visualize it. I never try to create a new character. I let them come to me. So to speak. First I visualize the character. What do they look like. Hair color. Eye color. What is his or her age? That comes first. Second I pick a name. Lately I have been going to a site to name a baby. Name a baby name a character. Both need names, right? The site tells the origin, the meaning, and if the name is male/female or suitable for both. (link is http://www.babynamesworld.com ) Okay, now I know what my character looks like. Next step is giving the character personality. As people we have our own personality. Things we would do and things we would never do. Characters should be the same way. If you know your characters well enough you will know what is not in them to do. Of course characters act. They have reactions to things. They act in movements, expressions, and in speaking. For character conversations, make them talk as people would. If the character is a child don't make them talk like an adult. People don't always use proper grammer. Why would your characters? Make them believable. Well, good or bad. This is my advice on characters.
