What do you think about the police in your country?

Are they effective? Do you trust them? I think the police in the United States are very effective. Most of our cops are good cops.

I think the police in our country is pretty effective. Sometimes they are just too annoying. Keep telling us about something which really is nothing important and take us with them! :O :D

I am from india and police here is not at all effective. They are themselves criminals always looking for an opportunity to ask for bribes, women feel unsafe in their presence. They are the most untrusted group of persons in our country. Already a number of controversies have cropped up relating to top cops here ranging from molestation to fake encounters.

I am sorry to hear that. I didn't realize the cops were so bad in India. Thanks for the reply.

Most of the police officers in the USA are great. It's the government that stinks.

After the recent controversy in New York City, I'm sure many people are questioning the effectiveness of the police in the United States.

They do do their jobs but there is a real shortage of them where I live and they really need to focus more on the problems that we have here with illegal street racing, speeding, raves/house parties, etc. - all of which are done by teens... The community is fed up with it and now has put together their own program to stop it...the police really need to get out in the community more.

The effectiveness of a police officer or every person depends upon the encouragement he gets from top. If his superior is not showing any appreciation for his work, naturally there will be demoralisation among every people including police officers

I do believe that our police is very good and do a great job catching the bad guys and protecting us. Of course there will be some bad cops out there but the majority of them are excellent and serve our country and states proud. I do trust the cops where I live as we have not had any reports of any wrongful activity by them lately. They do not get paid enough for what they do and what they deal with everyday.

The police in my country are quite good too. Some are corrupt because the imposition of severity in case of corruption is not too strong. But overall, you can definitely count on most of them being there when you need help.

I think it depends on the person. There seems to be more good cops than bad cops here in California, but maybe it's because I have yet to encounter a bad cop. My dad was a cop in the Bay Area for I don't know how many years...at least 30 if not more. He was one of the good ones (and I'm not saying that because he is my dad). He made it all the way to Chief of police before retiring a few years ago.
