Are you a vegitarian? Why did you choose to not eat meat? I'm really curious about this. I've never really heard concrete facts about why people are vegetarians other than "not eating a living thing." But, is it healthier to be a vegetarian?

No I don't think they are healthier. I think those people who are the healthiest are those who eat a well balanced diet. It it VERY hard as a vegitarian/vegan ect. to do this.

Sorry to tell you, i am a non-vegetarian. But reading through recnt articles in health magazines, media, newspaper, internet etc it is absolutely clear that vegetarians are more heathier than non-vegetarians. Although, it is not proved 100% scientifically, many people believe in this and i am also planning to go vegetarian. What do you say.... Anyway, thanks for responding

Its just a misconception that veggies miss on proteins and vitamins that's present in meat or any other nonveg food. For ur kind info. all the proteins and vitamins are available in fruits and vegetables we eat. And had your thinking been right all of the vegetarians must be suffering from malnutrition. which isn't really the case.

It can be healthy, but if not done correctly can also be deadly. I went through a stage when I was younger for about 7 years where I refused to eat meat. I was a very UNHEALTHY vegetarian. I did eat cheese and eggs. But I did not eat Beans, soy, or anything else to replace the proteins and other necessary needs of meat. I ended up in the ER with horrible leg cramps and the results were that if I did not change my diet I would have a heart attack because of the stress on my body from lacking nutrients. It was giving me leg cramps by drawing on stores of nutrients....he said eventually it would be my heart under attack......I WAS ONLY 18!!!! Needless to say I am a steak eater now and healthy.

I have to agree with your point. I believe it is healthier to be a vegetarian if of course you eat enough of the vegetables that do give you the proteins that feed your bodies need for it. Our bodies pretty much need a complete balance of Protein, Carbs, and fat to really function at the right level.

yes I think vegitarians are healthier than others because vegitarians eats lots of fruits and green vegetables. Second the meat eaten used to close the vessels easily leading to coronary artery disease. After age 40, it is believe meat are believed harder to digest. Yes it is healthier to be vegetarian because there are lots of fruits which are good for body. Also, vegetables and banans contains all the necessary things needed for the body. The body toxins and posions will be less if you eat less meat and fish. I have been avoiding meat and fish for around 15 years. I eat only eggs, but trying to decrease the number of it One of the reason I avoid meat and fish because I dont want some living thing to be killed because of me. Most living things are killed in brutual manner. Chickens's neck and half cut and thrown in poultry farms. it is believed that chicken will be fresh if killed half killed or neck half cut. Rabbits are also killed and taken for food. Beef and porks meat animals are walked lots of kms during market season and is given water only and no food during the previous day and then killed in brutual manner. some use big bat to thrush the head of these poor animals. Pigs are also killed in brutual manner One of the slogan that moved me is "Would you eat children of another mother?"

usually they are healthier than those who eat meat. the only true unhealthiness about eating meat is eating meat that has been genetically modified, pumped with hormones, preservatives, and unhealthiness galore. This is the stuff in meat that creates cancer and other diseases in the animal, which is later transferred to us when we are literary eating away at the animal's disease. You can be just as healthy as someone who eats vegetables by eating organic, non-genetically modified meat.

i am a vegetarian because of the health benefits, less saturated fat and cholesterol. yes we do get plenty of protein and vitamins, in fact we tend to get more because we make healthier choices when eating. not to say a meat eating health freak doesn't get as many, they do too! it's what we eat, not whether we eat meat or not. there can be a french fry eating, kool aide drinking, brownie eating vegetarian that is not going to ge the health benefits of being a vegetarian, same as the fried chicken eating, burger king meat eating addict. if you do a vegetarian diet the right way, you do end up eating more vegetables that have more vitamins than we get in a reg. diet. like i said, it's how you do it!

WHEN U ASK SOMEONE WHAT IS SECRET FOR THEIR GOOD HELATH....SOME SAY ITS BECAUSE THEY NOT EAT NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD WHILE SOME SAY THAT THEY EAT NOTHING BUT NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD! ACCORDING TO ME THE REASON IS BECAUSE THEY EAT HAELTHY FOOD! IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE WHO EAT ONLY VEGETARIAN FOOD ARE HEALTHY. NON-VEGETARIAN PEOPLE ARE ALSO QUITE HEALTHY LIKE ME!

very good question ambur.well i think vegetarians are healthier that non-vegetarians.i used to be a vegetarian but i turned non-vegetarian coz i joined gym.well when i ll leave gym i ll turn to vegetarian again.vegetables are fresh but u might not get same type of nonveg stuff.being vegetarian u get a lot of roughage which you dont get bein a non-veg.eating non-veg increases your hypertension and there is no problem whatsoever in vegetarian food.hypertension is the root of all pshyological problems you will ever have.vegetarians do have to miss out on some ingredients but all necessary ingredients and vitamins are supplied by vegetables only.

In general my vegetarian brother is healthier than me, so I would be inclined to say yes. But there is one vitamin missing from a vegetarian diet - vitamin B12. Howeverm vitamin B12 is not exactly essential to having a healthy life - it is VERY important for women who want to become pregnant though. So if you are a vegetarian woman, and you are thinking of having a kid, please go on a supplement vitamin that will give you vitamin B12. Otherwise, there is no problem with a vegetariam lifestyle except all the yummy bacon you miss out on!

I am vegetarian. But truth be told that there are meat eaters that are healthier than vegetarians and vegetarians that are healthier than meat eaters. I see many vegetarians who replace their calories that they would have otherwise gotten from meat and eata lot more processed foods or see it as a free for all to eat anything and as much of as they want as long as it isnt meat. It all depends on how well they eat

I'm a meat eater. I'd never be able to give it up. I don't know if they are healthier, I definitely do think there's something missing from their diets unless they are taking suppliments to make up for the loss of protiens and such.

No i don't think so....... A diet consisting of French fries and bananas is vegetarian, but few people would consider such a diet very healthy. On the other hand, a diet that includes plenty of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and a good source of calcium like low-fat dairy products is healthy whether it features moderate portions of lean meat or legumes, seeds and soy-based meat substitutes as the main protein source. It is true, however, that well-planned vegetarian diets tend to be higher in fiber and protective phytonutrients and lower in saturated fat than the typical American diet. This healthier diet helps explain why vegetarians tend to have less cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and fewer weight problems than their meat-loving counterparts. Although vegetarian diets can be very healthy, nutritional awareness is still important. Vegetarian teens, like their meat-eating friends, often fall short on calcium, iron and zinc. Also, those who eliminate all animal-based foods and dairy products from their diets need to get a daily dose of vitamin B12. Fortified ready-to-eat cereals or a daily multivitamin supplement with B12 can help prevent pernicious anemia, a serious form of anemia that can lead to permanent nerve damage.
