I have not seen it and am sort of interested in the movie. I have studied Mayan history and find it very interesting. I have not read the reviews for the movie yet. I have a feeling that this movie is going to be bloodier and more violence filled than it needs to be.

Sounds like it'll be a bloody battle film in the vein of The Passion... But it's so rare to see Mayan culture portrayed anywhere except History Channel type shows, so I'll probably check it out. I have a couple of books on the Mayans that I'll try to skim through before I see the movie.

It does look good and very interesting, but I'm not a big fan of going to the movies. This one looks like it would take some concentration and I find going to the theaters for those types is tuff, so much buzz around you, so I prefer to see it at home. I will definitely do it when it comes to "on demand" or video.

Going to the movies has less appeal to me as the years go by. Too many people talking (esp. at inappropriate times) and some folks always bring their own food in noisy, crinkly plastic wrappers. I'll probably try to check out an afternoon showing when I can at least sit 20 rows away from such people!

Thanks for the comment. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it. Even the reviewers who didn't like it said that Gibson was an accomplished director. Braveheart is probably one of my favorite movies of the last 15 years.
And the unknown actors he cast supposedly give it a very authentic feel.

It looks alright... I'm not exactly sure what its about... Is about how the Mayan's got too big and then crumbled? Anyways, I can't wait to see some of the Mayan culture when I go to Peru! If it's a mini history lesson, I probably should see it before I go!

Not sure if it's about the culture as a whole or just one village... or if the village is a stand-in for the whole civilization.
When are you going to Peru? Sounds like a great trip. I wanted to go to Guatemala a second time, but my nephew moved back to the States.

Hello my dear Idlewild, long time no see! I suppose by now you have seen it already and you already know how fantastic it was! I don't know if you like to read, but if you enjoyed the movie you must get the book, "Aztec" by Gary Jennings. Once you read it, you will want to read the rest of the series! The movie brought the books to life for me! I feel the same way you do about movie theaters, I refuse to even go if my husband is bringing his son! There is nothing worse than a parent who gives his kid permission to talk during a movie because that same kid who will sit there and never utter a peep if I take him, will talk if his daddy is along because his daddy made it plain and clear that his boy can talk if he wants to, and believe me, he will think of stuff to say just to prove he can talk! Movies are not fun for me anymore, as people let their kids kick your seat and eat popcorn with their mouths open and everything! I was glad to read the movie, at least I didn't miss anything that was said because someone was talking!

Finding out about ancient civilisations of great advancement which are nonetheless shrouded in mystery is always fascinating. But I don't like films that portray brutality, that is to excess. I don't want to prejudge "Apocalypto" in this respect, but there have been reports of scenes of violence; thence I will not be rushing to see it. However, when it is eventually shown on TV I will probably video it and fast forward the gruesome scenes.

I have seen Apocalypto and it is a good film to watch, it's worth watching. The way the film has portrayed Mayan kingdom is good, I have to say Mel Gibson is a good director ...
