What would you do?

It seems like a pretty simple question, but if you were put in a situation where the only way to save your own life was for you to take a close friend or close family members' and vice versa, would you kill them so you could live or let them kill you so they could live?

When asked a question like that, it is kind of hard to respond truthfully without sounding like a some moronic self-centred person, or a moronic selfless person. It is hard to determine what one would do, but when asked the question, I would probably answer with: I would rather die, than face the fact that someone had to die, so I could live. However, when put in to a situation like that, it is hard to determine the actual outcome.
