How can I create my own website? Where do I go to get started?

I want to have my own website. The problem is, I don't know what to do!? I need help. How do I get started? Where do I go? What do I do?

What do you want to create a website on?
Do you want to pay for it, or for everything to be free?
Once you have those two questions down you need two things:
A domain name and a webhost.

Does the first question really matter? A website is a website right? I want it to be free. What's a domain name and a webhost.

The first question is very important..
Will it be an adult website?
Will is be a high-traffic online forums?
Will it have objectionable content?
Do you want to code in PHP or ASP?
There is more to it then just I want a website.
The Domain name is the: www.WHATEVER.com that you register.
Hosting is where you host that domain name and subsequent website.

Try geocities. I'm hosted there. It's free and i haven't had any problems. :]
