Did anyone else find the film Borat really funny? It was controversial and at times very close to the bone, but I feel it exposed an interesting side to American culture. At times the humour was infantile and just rude, but I feel it showed a country (America)that is in turmoil at the moment. Some of the racist, sexist and homophobic attitudes shown by the people being filmed, exposed a rather unpleasant side of America that some people would rather ignore. What do you think?

It's interesting to me that you chose to ask about what it said about Americans. Most people are offended about what it says about people from Khazikstan. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't really answer your questions based on the movie. I think that there is a lot of racist, sexist, homophobic attitudes all over the world. I think that certain cities and states in the US have more problems with these issues than others. Some areas like New York City shouldn't be so much as it's more of a cultural melting pot... but yes, I know it's still there. There is probably more racism in the south than in the north and west coast. Also there is a lot more black people racist towards white people than there ever used to be. I think a lot of people that are homophobes probably are insecure with their own sexuality - either that or they are maybe Bible thumpers. It's sad that after the fight for equal rights between men and women, between black and white that there is still so many problems. I also think that the people that made the movie probably chose to show people at their worst. What kind of fun would it be to show people that were embracing of homosexuals, women and minorities? It wouldn't give them the drama they needed.

I found the movie outragious. I wondered how many people he had to interview to find the racist, sexist and homophobic creatures shown in the movie. I did not think it was representative generally of American culture.
I also found the take on Jews and uneducated East Europeans in very bad taste. The naked scense were totally gross.
The only part I found funny was the reaction of the people in the New York subway when the chicken started to flap around.
Now, I know a lot of people who saw the movie many times and found it really funny. On the other hand a guy who sat next to me on one side in the theatre walked out and the East European woman who sat on the other side of me did not laugh once and was visibly upset when the movie ended.
Overall I thought it was in really bad taste.

of course it was offensive and controversial, that's the point! and i think it did a good job in exposing the horrible and unjust sides of not just america. i'll try to research if the kazakh event "run of the jews" is an actual event of borat just screwed the subtitles. if it is so, then it also exposed a horribe side of kazakhstan.

I've seen its thriller and I love it. The guy, Borat is weird and hillarious. I'm looking forward to see it soon in a cinema.

I think it was very controversial, but at the same time, it did not attack just one culture or race...not that it is any better, but at least the writer/director was smart enough to offend everyone instead of just one type of person. If that makes any sense to anyone other than me.

I haven't seen the film yet - but I love the Borat segments of the Ali G show.. I think he's really hilarious!
I am sure the movie exposes some real unpleasantness in people - but I am not sure if it's specifically Americans to blame... There are racist, sexist and homophobic people all over the world!
I wonder if Borat would have been able to make a similiar movie anywhere else in the world??

I thought it was hilarious!
And scary at the same time, to see some of those attitudes and then intensity of some of the people was something I've never seen before.
I guess it was controversial, because now the people don't want what they have said to be shown, which implies that they are ashamed of what they said/acted, does that mean that they think what they do/say is wrong?

I also thought it was hilarious. It not only shows racism in America, it also shows racism of people in general. LOL, I would hate to be a jew living in kazakhstan.
