What is the difference between british and american humor? Which do you like?

British humour is quieter/slyer. In Britain we have a thing for manners, which means not saying hurtful things. So most British humour is about how to get across how you really feel while maintaining social conventions.
That said, a rougher/crueller version of British humour is currently evolving with shows like Little Britain.
American humour - shows like Friends got it right (i.e. it was accessible to us Brits) - but some of the stuff on the Jon Stewart show seems bizarre. His humour seems to be about making funny faces. Not sure that's a valid form of humour.
