men and women are so different ...

Duh. can't believe I'm just realising that! I hope I portray this hypothetical situation so it makes a bit of sense.
A man and woman are very good friends, and have been for a few years. The woman, in the beginning, has no ideas or intentions of things moving beyond that. Loving the man as a dear friend is what she thinks she is doing. Then, out of the blue one day after one of their visits together (there had been a few), he kisses her like .....well, not a friend. This confuses the woman to no end. Keep in mind the woman is very touchy feely and loves to hug, so that may have been a wrong signal sent unintentionally by her. So, time passes after the kiss and they talk about it insisting they must keep things on the friend level , but the next time they are together... things go much, much further. Her fault again, thinking she can cuddle with a grown man without things going too far.
I guess my question is something along the lines of, what is the man thinking? Does he love the woman as a friend, or using her, or is he in love with her, or maybe an idea? Once friends have gone too far, can they ever get back what they had?
hmmmmm ......interesting :-)
