Are youa dog person or a cat person?

We have a cat- a Scottishfold. he is sweet and loving and very affectionate. My 6 yr old wanted a cat sooo badly so we bought one. Now he wants a dog. My hubby wants one as well. We also have a 11 month old. I will be the one who has to clean up after the dog, as I do the cat, the kids and my husband. I have a low tolerance for messes and no one else seems to mind clutter so I do all of the work, or so it seems. I am not a dog person, I don't thinbk. I don't know. How do you know if you are a dog person and how do you get over the whole pooping all over the place part of dog ownership? What dogs are good with kids? Do you have a dog and did you go to a breeder or the pound? We have a large backyard with a pool. Can dogs naturally swim or am I going ot have to watch for a floater one day? So how do I kow if I can handle a dog if I have never had one? I can't get one and then hate it and return it...that would break everyone's heart (but mine). Any and all advice is appreciated!
