how many can relate with this movie, and the message it is trying to display. Would you want to travel a Yellow Brick road with a group of strangers to have them become your friends to seek a professional to only find out a lot of what you will be told you already know.
I guess to me, there are many reasons that this movie is still and always will be a classic. It teaches us the meaning of friendship, and gives us a hope that in time things will be better. And what better sense of showing us there is no place like home, even if that is a small shack somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.

I don't really watch this movie. I've seen it but it's not one of my favourite's so I don't make a habit of watching it again and again. I probably could relate to it in someway if I thought about it... but I don't like it enough to think about if I can relate to it or not :P
Good question though!

Have you ever done the thing where you turn the volume down and play the pink floyd cd to it? we could never get it to work right... and then we saw it on ebay where it was sold with the pink floyd music instead of the words. It works perfect!

I have watched "The Wizard of Oz" for over 40 years now. I don't think I'll ever get enough of it. It's messages are timeless so they work with new generation that watches it.

If I could sing like Judy Garland, I might give that yellow brick road a try! :o) However, since I can't I'll say that I am very shy with strangers, and the thought of going into another strange place like I've done twice in the last 4 years doesn't appeal to me at all.
But, I love the movie and somehow get hooked into watching it every time it's on TV. It's timeless, so it will go on forever I think. I totally agree that "there's no place like home".

Interesting... I would have loved to have met someone like The Cowardly Lion. He is my favorite, and when we get Bored at work we sometimes love to act out The Wizard of Oz.

You never have to look beyond your own backyard for whatever you seek to find.

I do love this movie. I read a book called "The Zen of Oz" and it relates the movie to Zen concepts. It's pretty cool.

Why does this movie have to have a message...it was made soooo many years ago..couldn't it have been just someones imagination that made it to film. Like thinking Tele Tubbies had a hidden agenda...they were fabricated fictitional play characters for entertainment. Maybe some of us are overthinking things. Maybe! My movies are for entertainment..that is it. not looking for messages or hidden meanings. Thanks for starting this discussion..a window into others lives.

Well, for some people movies have messages, so it is up to each individual if something moves them or not.

I can definitely relate to this movie as it is one of my favorite movies and they still show it on tv pretty often here. Yes, I would want to travel a yellow brick road with a group of strangers as that is how you make new friends and get to know other people and what they go through. I have had to seek the help of a professional before to get advice and get me through some tough times. Sometimes I learn new things and sometimes I do get told things that I already knew. It was still helpful either way.

It is more geared for women I think. I get what you are saying, but my husband would not enjoy it or see it the way a women feels and sees it.

I feel the same way you do about "the wizard of Oz". It's been one of my favourite movies and I must have watched it a hundred times. My 6 year old son loves the movie too though he isn't old enough to understand the message it is trying to give. But he enjoys it for now and I'm sure he'll get a few lessons about friendship from it.

This movie is one my favorite "classics". I've watched it for over 40 years, and still love it. I dont think it will ever become old. I even started a small collection of Oz collectibles of my own. If you check my profile, I own an online gift store and just added Oz bean bag bears dressed as Oz characters. I just ordered a set for myself. Too cute. I'd have to say the Cowardly Lion is my favorite character.

Well, I Love Cowardly Lion as well. I would Love to own some of the stuff from this movie. I was talking about this discussion I started last night at work, and one of the women I work with said she has a lot of Wizard of Oz memorabilia, and is continuing to add to it when she can.

This is going to sound shallow... but I never put any thought into the movie. I enjoy it for the entertainment value. Of course there are some immediate "life lessons"... aka "there's no place like home" in it, but for me it's always been a world of fantasy to enjoy. I prefer not to over analyze it, although I'm certain there is a LOT to analyze!

I can definitely relate to this movie. Poor Dorothy thinks that she needs to run away to find a better life, but then she gets more than she bargained for when the tornado whisks her away to OZ. I almost feel like she has no choice but to keep on down the road, so to speak, because she thinks that finding the Wizard will bring her home.

I loved that show and would always watch it. It has great value than movies they come out with today any more. My hubby always made fun of me wanting to watch it. Friendship is so valuable and they really show that in that movie.

I have always loved this movie, ever since I was little child. The flying monkeys still strike fear in my heart, and I always tear up at the end. I love the way that Oz is in color and the "real life" of Kansas is in black and white. And yes, I can really relate to the message and storyline of the movie.

This is one of my fave all time movies.I loved it ever since I was little and last month my husband found it on DVD and bought it for me.When he arrived home,my eldest son took one look and said " Oh noooooo" but as soon as it was playing all the other children were struck in silence as they watched.Everything about it,the colours etc is amazing and far before its time I think. The message it sends is a lesson to us all and really,as corny as it sounds they dont make films like that anymore.

This is a movie I've seen so many times and still love it. It kind of brings out the kid in you. Your pulled into a fantasy. A true classic!
