1995 Honda Accord

I have a 95 Accord EX with 111k. I think it may be getting towards time to replace the timing belt. Where would be a good place to take it for an estimate? Would it be smarter to go to a mechanic who has the tools or just have a friend, who is really good with cars, do it? Do they have to do the water pump and balancing shaft or is it just a good idea? Also, I have the VTEC enging and can't for the life of me figure out what is so special. Could somebody please enlighten me. My brother saw it and was hugely jealous, and I was like "what it's an engine." Then again I am not mechanically inclined. Thank you in advance for your help.
