They are smart, loyal, goofy, friendly, protective and
intimidating all in one huge package. In the past when
some of our friends encountered our Great Danes, the
common response was, "put a saddle on that thing...".

I hear that phrase daily when walking Goliath my 2 year old great dane!!!I love the way you explained a great danes characteristics great job!!!!

I'd add noble, distinguished, couch potato, sweet, sensitive, and loving!
When people tell me "put a saddle on that thing" I reply "we tried, he ate it". When they ask "does he like children?" I answer "why are you missing one???"
I don't know what I'd do without mine!
