My daughter is 12 years old and wants Bratz dolls for Christmas. She doesn't play with the ones that she was given last year, so I don't really want to waste the money buying them for nothing. Does anyone have any ideas as to other things that I could get for her? When I ask her, her response is the same - "I don't know". And Clothes are not an option since she will be getting all kinds of gift certificates to pick up clothes with.
Thanks everyone for your responses and Happy Holidays!

I know it can be hard...my son is 14 and I had no idea what to get him...then I thought well he is growing up..so things for his room would be good....Maybe ..you could do that with your daughter...A new duvet set..or radio..or whatever you think she could use....

I think this is a spectacular idea. I would have never thought of it! Too bad I don't have a daughter whom i can do this for.
I'm just stuck on what to get for my husband! :-/

That's a great idea. She was looking at a couple different bedding sets. Maybe we'll redecorate her room for Christmas.

Yeah, aren't men so difficult to buy for! My husband has enough golf balls and golf shirts. He inherited a lot of clothes from my Dad when he passed. I usually buy him a new country CD every year but now it seems like he is hooked on one CD - the only one he will listen to - Faith Hill.

My daughter is 9 and wants Bratz for christmas also..She has tons of them already and very seldom plays with them..Bratz are very expensive and I told myself, this year..she'll only get one..I have asked her what else she would like and she gave me some clues..So,my advise is..just find something else she is interested in..I got my daughter a really nice Bratz scrapbook for her birthday..she works on it all the time.

A scrapbook is a great idea. It's something that she can keep also in a memory box that I'm thinking about getting her. Thanks!!!

Scrapbook=GREAT...Bratz Doll=NOT SO GREAT. Have you really looked at those dolls? They look like little hookers. Is that what you want modeled for your daughter?

Well buddy we can only guess and suggest things to you
But the thumb rule is, you know what is the need and desire of your daughter
Ask her, what is it, that she wants badly or she will be really delighted in getting and go for it
Ofcourse kids have a tendancy to like something and make it as their desire! that they have to get it
And yes your daughter must be wanting to get something like that

you still have time for this one but not much. Tell her she needs to make a list or you will not get her anything but a gift card. and If you don't want to try that one does she have any interest? Play an insterment? My oldest son plays the bass in a band so my family always knows he need srting and all the extras that go with it. By the way he is 14. My 13 year old son is harder to pay for he don't have any thing he is really in to other than games. I don't want to buy him games becaus of the gift card thing. H ave you started her a hope chest? I know it is an old fashtion thing but it iwll help her out so much in the long run I have one for each boy and I get them one thing for it at each gift giving time. You can try this, Just a few ideals.

I have been trying to redirect my families attention away from buying things and move them towards doing things.
You might try asking your daughter where she would like to go and what she would like to do.
Offer a vacation, a date, an outing.
I gave my son a trip to Six Flags, an amusement park last summer. Just me and him. It went great and was a lot more fun than half of the things that he received for his birthday (some of which were never opened).
there are lots of possibilities. Take her to the movies, roller skating, ice skating, amusement parks, camping, bowling, hiking, fishing
something bu t get her to focus on doing things wiht you as opposed to giving her stuff would be my suggestion.
For the long term, this will help you learn how to start that transition slowly away from the role of guardian and child and into the relationship of family and friends.
Here's some articles about my trip

This year I was a member a member of a group called "adopt a needy family for christmas". Some of the girls were 12 or 13. Some items asked for were body spray, makeup, pillows, jewelry, purses, and "girly things". Hope this helps.

Hi! How about some different crafting kits, like the bead kits for making jewelry, a kit to make her own jewelry box, a paint by number set,or even those large posters to color? They might bring out some creativity in her and she might find a hobby she really enjoys. Hope that helps! :-)

The beads are not a good idea in my house. We are constantly picking them up off the floor. I actually picked up a jewelery box kit where you can decorate the outside of it. Thank you for your ideas.

What about something like Bratz school stuff , Like shoes a backpack, lunch box, pencil case etc etc.. maybe do an entire backpack full of Bratz stuff other then the dolls themselves. If you did it that way you get some of the school stuff out of the way aswell..
Kids are sooo hard to buy for without spending a fortune, I'm going through this with my son aswell but he's into Hot Wheels stuff..

My daughter is 13, and last year I got her a digital camera. She absolutely loves it, she uses it all the time, and it is a good hobby for her. I didn't buy top of the line, just a starter digital camera, this year she wants another memory card, because she doesn't want to delete any of the pictures she took. She is really in photography now and she is getting pretty good at it. Do you think your daughter would enjoy something like that?
